It’s extraordinarily lively down on this end of the country! So many cultural experiences are happening next to this sea coast. Not only will you get to try the popular Busan seafood and street food, but you’ll be surrounded by chill yet strong personalities with a different dialect from Seoul. Enjoy walking around and admire this seaport city!
A great place to visit if you are looking for either traditional or simply cute Korean souvenirs from South Korea would be Arirang Street. It is joyful to walk around and check out all the stores of cosmetics and snack stores if you are curious about what they sell.
In the small alleyways. you will spot lots of small shops selling a variety of items. There are handbags, wallets, pet clothes, Korean-style pillows and blankets, handmade accessories, phone cases, and so much more. It is like a maze of surprises sometimes. Don’t forget to try the street food as well! The whole street is filled with stalls selling the perfect one-serving, hand-sized snack!
When you’re done shopping and feel like you are almost ready to drop, let’s head to somewhere where we can relax and admire the city. The Busan Tower is similar to the N Seoul Tower (Namsan Tower), where you can view the city’s skyline from the top of a mountain. If you like scavenger hunts, getting to the Busan Tower can be a puzzle game. I promise the entrance to the Busan Tower is not too difficult though.
DIRECTIONS TO THE BUSAN TOWER:
To get to the Busan Tower, you can take a tunnel with an escalator and two sets of stairs from the shopping area we are in today. It might be a bit nerve-racking to search around for the tunnel with staircases since it is a bit hidden. The tunnel is located in between shopping stores. It will be near the crosswalk in the middle of the shopping area. There will also be signs displaying where the Busan Tower is. If you are lost, don’t be afraid to ask a staff inside one of the main shops.
When you arrive at the top of the tunnel, you will enter Yongdusan Park (용두산공원) first, before you reach Busan Tower. You can take a walk around or sit for a while depending on how tired you are from all the shopping at Arirang Street. There is a cafe, gift shop, and even a hanbok rental shop.
After resting my legs until I had the stamina to walk again, I walked towards the path leading to the Busan Tower. My eyes quickly fixed upon a black and white furry creature that was as still as a rock. At first, I thought it was a toy plushie, but as I walked closer I realized it was a real sleeping cat. The cat was sleeping so soundly in the middle of the pathway without no care in the world. Then, an orange-brown cat casually strode along the walls out of the corner of my eye. A third cat weaved in and out of the bushes and trees. These three furry creatures were exuding dominance as if we were guests at their home. I wondered if they were local strays. It was a very cute surprise!
There is a slight slope going up the path to the Busan Tower. What a view it is when I got to the observation deck! However, if you would like to go even higher and go up the tower, you can pay a fee. I found the view from the observation deck to be enough.
Just like the N Seoul Tower, there is an area where couples, friends, lovers, and anybody, can put a lock on for long-lasting love and memories. Although, the gate of locks is smaller than Seoul’s. It is also shaped like trees whereas the one in Seoul is on actual gates preventing visitors to fall off the observation deck.
I hope you enjoy your day! This was day 3 of my Busan trip! It was a very filled day. Check out my previous post to get an idea of what else is around Arirang Street. You can learn more about food as always! If you would like to learn more about what you can do in Busan, check out the rest of my travel journal!
