I am not a huge fan of winter because of how cold it is. All I want to do as soon as it hits 32°F (0°C) is to hibernate like the bears. I digress, I know I can’t do that in this society. There is too much to do while the squirrels aren’t running around.
With some common sense, I can put on layers of clothes before heading outdoors. But why would I do that when I can stay indoors and drink hot chocolate or tea and watch shows and movies, and play games in the warmth of my home? Sliding down a mountain full of snow is what can get me out in the winter. Although, not without a good quality snowsuit, or at least snow pants and a puffy insulated jacket.
Blue Mountain Resort is the place you need to visit at least once in the winter. It is located in the Poconos, which is so peaceful since it is away from city life. If you don’t get to experience nature as much in your day-to-day life, then add the Poconos to your vacation list! At Blue Mountain Resort, there is so much space for the outdoor activities they offer. Besides their winter activities like skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing, the resort also has summer adventures. One hot adventure that I enjoy is ziplining! But I’ll save that for another post.
The first time I tried skiing was at Blue Mountain Resort. My older cousins invited my siblings and me to play at this ski and snowboarding resort. Since it was our first time, we had someone give us a lesson to get the basics down. After a few shaky and slow trials, we got the hang of it! The move that I immediately memorized was how to stop doing down the hill because I was afraid of losing control. “Make an upside down ‘V’”, as I would keep repeating to myself if I was going down the hill too fast. Fortunately, we were at the beginner slope so it wasn’t too scary. After a few practices from the lesson instructor, we all went skiing in our own space and pace. I tried my hardest to not fall, but sometimes it’s inevitable. It’s okay to fall and get back up. After all, it was our first time.
A few years later, I came back to Blue Mountain Resort with my college’s International Students’ Association. It was a fun group activity! This time my group of friends and I tried snow tubing. With snow tubing, there are tubes that could fit two people. So, we enjoyed our time sliding down the lanes and racing each other solo and in teams!
I have yet to try snowboarding. There is something about both my feet being locked down together that scares me. I shall get over that fear one day because it does look like a fun time to me! Albeit, someone will have to invite me to go snowboarding because I don’t think I would suggest it otherwise.
Tip: Ensure that your car is ready to handle the mountain roads before heading to the Poconos.
What is your favorite thing to do in the winter?
Sincerely,
Amy♡
