We all need to learn how to take care of ourselves as best as we can. Whether you are living alone or don’t have anyone who is readily able to be by your side 24/7, sometimes the only person you can count on is yourself. Learning to be your own best friend is necessary. Don’t be afraid to take yourself out on a coffee date or travel to another country solo.
As a female solo traveler, I know just what you need to splurge on yourself (while keeping a budget in mind because we’re not all Kim Kardashian). Regardless if you don’t have any travel plans yet, these products will still be great for you to try out and give you ideas on what to pack for your next trip! If you already have plans for travel, then you might want to add some of these travel-friendly items to your luggage.
Here is a quick and simple list of some products that are great for beauty and self-care on your travels.
1) Tiger Balm
I promise this is the best thing to carry with you everywhere. Tiger Balm is a pain relieving ointment. I love using it when I have muscle pain from walking more than 20,000 steps a day since my travel adventures require a lot of walking. Tiger Balm is great for headaches, nausea, and honestly just about anything! It will not heal a broken bone, but it will relieve external soreness. Some people do not like the smell, but I love it! It smells like medicinal herbs and menthol. When you apply it, you can feel a tingly cooling sensation like eating peppermint. The Tiger Balm White Regular Strength is my go-to. If you often have migraines or muscle pain, the Red Extra Strength might be better for you. If you are a fitness person or frequently have severe pain, try Tiger Balm Ultra Strength.
2) Pimple Patches
You don’t want to be irritated by a nasty pimple springing up on your face, especially when you are traveling. Despite the fact that acne (even adult acne) is completely normal, those pesky dots on your face can be annoying and painful. Therefore, get rid of them with pimple patches! These stickers for your face are like bandages. I like to put them on as the last step in my nighttime skincare routine. Depending on how raw the pimple is, all the gunk will be gone the next day.
3) Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask
As you’re flying higher and higher into the sky, the air will suck your skin dry! You better be prepared to moisturize and stay hydrated with a lip mask. A lip balm is great, but a lip mask? It is on a whole other level. The longer your flight, the more prepared you want to be to have a comfortable ride. This Laneige lip sleeping mask is also great to put on overnight or before bed.
4) Honest Powder Face Cleanser
You know there are gel to foam cleansers, but did you know there are powder to foam cleansers? I have never seen a cleanser that starts as a powder and morphs into an exfoliating cleanser. This face cleanser by Honest Beauty is the perfect cleanser to travel with because it is one less worry about how much liquid you have in your carry-on, which also means one less worry about the 3-1-1 rule. This cleanser works for all skin types and I find that it is gentle enough for my sensitive skin. My face feels very clean afterward especially if I just flew halfway around the world with a layover. Although this is not liquid, I would still advise packing it tightly in your bag (separate from your other things) so it can’t open or the powder will explode onto everything.
5) Neutrogena Face Moisturizer
Hyaluronic acid is naturally produced in your body to help retain moisture in your skin. We all need to stay hydrated to be healthy, and even more when we are on the go. With Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Water Gel, your skin will remain looking glowy and youthful throughout your travels. I like to refresh my face after a long plane ride by washing it with a cleanser, a toner, and then a moisturizer. That is my typical routine and just because we are not in our usual washroom, that doesn’t mean we can’t take care of our hygiene. Don’t be afraid to take care of your skin at the airport restroom!
6) Bioré UV Face Sunscreen
There are a lot of sunscreen brands out there. But one that does not leave a white cast on your face or feels tacky? It can be difficult to find. Worry not, the Bioré UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence does neither of what I just mentioned. This sunscreen feels just like a moisturizer. Wearing sunscreen will help protect your skin as you reach closer and closer to the sun. The UV rays are more harmful to your face as it is the most exposed. With SPF 50+, you will be good while you’re in the air.
7) Mise en Scene Hair Serum
Keep your hair healthy by using a hair serum! Any time of the year, whether you go swimming in the ocean or a pool, or just came back from the tundra, you don’t want your hair to break from dryness. After washing your hair, make sure to pump some hair oil in your hand and pat it into your hair focusing on the ends. I would highly recommend this product to those who have dyed or bleached hair. This is easy and compact to pack in your luggage as well.
BONUS) Hair Straightener
Lastly, this is a bonus product I want to share! Sometimes there is nothing more that can lift your mood than putting yourself together. That means, styling your hair to bring out your features. Even if you don’t own a hair styling tool, this would be the all-in-one you need. The BeKind hair iron straightens AND curls your hair. The size is perfect to even fit in your handbag. It also includes a carry bag with hair accessories. Definitely a winning product.
